QUESTION POSED ON: 02 July 2007
What size shops are most likely to need help with disaster recovery and business continuance? Are these issues primarily seen in large businesses?

>

There's a common notion, a common perception, that disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BC) is only for large businesses that perhaps rely on transaction processing, financial, high profile-applications, etc. The reality is that any business -- from a SOHO (small office, home office) to an SMB (small to medium-sized business) to a ROBO (remote office, branch office) of a larger or medium enterprise -- needs to look at and consider issues with DR/BC. It comes down to a business impact and risk exposure. So, DR/BC is not exclusive to the rich and famous large organization. It has applicability to businesses of all size. What's going to change... what's going to vary will be the business impact, the size of the business as well as what the applicable threat risks and threat vectors are.

The above Q&A was excerpted from Greg Schulz's disaster recovery services podcast. For the complete collection of Q&As, visit our Tips-to-Go: Data Disaster Recovery Services Tutorial.
