Randy Kerns is an industry veteran with more than thirty years in the storage business including IT operations, product development, and as a long time industry analyst. The product development includes developing storage products for various market segments with both established and start-up companies for both open systems and mainframe attachment. The products designed and developed cover both disk and tape systems.
As an industry analyst, Randy has written extensively about factors affecting the industry and the impacts of new technology. A noted speaker at industry conferences, Randy also continues to teach classes about storage technology in the United States and Europe. Randy is the author of the book for customers to help them to plan to meet their storage needs, "Planning A Storage Strategy."
Randy Kerns is currently the chief technology officer of ProStor Systems in Boulder, CO. Previously he was an independent storage analyst and consultant. The thirty years in the computer industry include executive management, development and analyst positions. Randy's education includes a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Missouri at Rolla and a master's degree in engineering computer science from the University of Colorado.
Development and management history includes developing disk and tape systems for mainframe attachment at IBM and StorageTek, development of disk systems for attachment to open systems and proprietary computer platforms at Fujitsu and Tandem Computers, strategy planning for Sun Microsystems, and development of tape and disk systems for both open systems and mainframes at two start-up companies.
As an industry analyst, Randy was responsible for product analysis and company strategy evaluation at the Evaluator Group. He also worked on projects with major end-user clients in assisting them with developing their storage strategies and with vendor companies in their product strategies. Randy has made numerous presentations at conferences and is the author of many industry articles and papers. |
