A security evaluation is a good first start to the project. There are two kinds of opportunities -- one is generated by the client and the other is generated by the service provider. When we meet with new clients, we'll find that the security evaluation process includes identifying the need, positioning a solution, and establishing a budget. When prospecting opportunities with a client, most often, if there has been no previous expressed need for storage security, there will be little or no available budget for any developed project. In these cases, unless the risk identified exposes a significant issue requiring immediate attention, it can be expected that the project would need to be slated for a future budget.
Providing security evaluation assessment tools will typically aid the client in establishing visibility into existing conditions that the client may not have previously been aware of. Even in mature IT environments, the lack of such tools is common, and once visibility to issues such as weak access controls or unprotected data stores or local copies of protected data incite a call to action, that can influence the allocation of discretionary budget to address the need.
