Storage channel roundup, through Jan. 7

DataCore signs on with Tech Data

IT distributor Tech Data's Advanced Infrastructure Solutions (AIS) Division now carries the full line of DataCore Software products, the companies announced this week. DataCore's offerings include the flagship products SANmelody and SANsymphony. Channel Marker blogger Heather Clancy is intrigued by the partnership. And SearchITChannel.com has examined the value of services offered by distributors; be sure to check out the stories.

Honing SLAs

Storage administrators may think SLAs for online backup services are a no-brainer, but a consultant from The Art of Service is urging caution in negotiating them. In this story from SearchDataBackup.com, Ivanka Menken, COO of the consultancy, advises end-user companies to pay close attention to several key areas of SLAs: security, availability, incident management, contacts and communication, financial management, and technical infrastructure. Solution providers can get advice on how they should approach an SLA in this Channel Business How-To on SearchITChannel.com.

The state of data backup

In this four-part series on the state of data backup, SearchStorage.com Senior News Writer Beth Pariseau examines the range of data backup decisions facing end users: those surrounding hardware and software, cloud storage, and data management tools and processes. She explains the distinctions between NAS and VTL interfaces for disk-based backup; runs through the latest options in snapshots, deduplication and replication; assesses how server virtualization is affecting the backup process; reports on companies that are outsourcing their backup work; and, finally, talks about classification and archiving tools. Solution providers who are interested in offering their own cloud storage services can get advice for doing so here.

Storage in 2008, data protection in 2009

SearchStorage.com Senior News Director Dave Raffo identifies the top five storage trends of 2008 and ESG analyst Lauren Whitehouse names the key data protection trends of 2009.
