To see how your customer's disaster recovery efforts stack up, consider using the following criteria.

A

  • Customer has a redundant, near real time hot backup site between 64 and 200 miles away.
  • Backup site runs daily production operations at least once every month.

    B

  • Backups are done on a redundant storage area network (SAN) array at locations separated by 10 to 63 miles.
  • Recovery has been tested in the last quarter and proved to recover within 24 hours.
  • C

  • Full backups, processes and documented procedures have been recently tested.
  • Backups are done offsite over a communications link on alternate hardware.
  • Tape backups are stored up to 10 miles away.
  • D

  • Systems and applications are backed up, but not tested.No tape backups have been tested in six months.
  • Data backups are sent each night to a nearby location.
  • F

  • No regular data backups performed.
  • No documented recovery procedures in place.
  • No DR tests are run.
